What is a Pediatric Dentist?

A pediatric dentist is a specialist, dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teenage years. The very young, pre-teens, and teens each have special dental needs. Pediatric dentists have been specially trained to monitor and guide their dental growth and development in order to help them avoid future dental problems. Pediatric dentists provide the most up to date and thorough treatment for a wide variety of children's dental problems. Many parents recognize this special commitment and wisely choose a pediatric dentist to treat their children.

Pediatric dentistry is one of the nine recognized dental specialties of the American Dental Association. Pediatric dentists complete two to three years of additional specialized training after the required four years of dental school to prepare them for treating a wide variety of children's dental problems. They are also trained and qualified to care for patients with physical, mental, or other medical disabilities.
